ABOUT US

"About Us" is actually a misnomer, since "Us" is just me, Riotta Scott. The following is a little bit of personal information. If that's not the type of info you're interested in, please visit my FAQ's page.

I've been doing freelance web design from my home for several years now. It started out as a job that would allow me the freedom to attend classes at whatever time of day necessary, but I soon found I was hooked on the ability to set my own hours, avoid traffic, and work in my fuzzy slippers if my feet were cold.

Eventually, however, the lure of a regular paycheck and benefits won me over and I took a job as webmaster at a nearby college. I now do my freelance work at night and during the weekend. It hasn't been a problem except with the rare potential client who requires face-to-face communication during regular business hours. My clients save a lot of money working with me, but some people may feel more comfortable working with a conventional firm even though it may be the difference between paying $500 for a site and paying $2,000.

Many of my clients are based in Key West, since I lived and worked there a few years ago. I started out doing one company's websites, and kept adding new clients through word-of-mouth. It's great that I can keep working with these people who now live more than 900 miles away from me. I "see" them every day in my inbox, so it's like I never left. I hope to continue building the same kind of client base here on Florida's beautiful emerald coast. Of course, working on the internet means I'm not limited to any one geographical area; I have clients from Florida to California.

Probably my biggest selling point is that I'm not a big, expensive web design firm. There are plenty of those, and they're great at what they do. I prefer to design fun, unique sites for the little guy... not boring, boxy, business sites, although I have done a few of those, too. Most people don't need a sprawling, dynamic, four thousand dollar site. They want an attractive site for a few hundred dollars or so, and I'm happy to oblige. Because above all, I'm enjoying the low stress-factor of this job. If I get Cheetos residue on my keyboard, I have no one to answer to but myself.
